A signature watch developed by Radium Instruments together with Jørg Lian, retired Sergeant Major with 38 years in the Norwegian Armed Forces, including the Special Operations Command. In 2011 he received the War Cross with Sword for bravery and leadership in Afghanistan.
KLAR 87 is the watch Lian wishes he’d had when he enlisted in 1987 – a tribute to those who served during the Cold War, and to those who carry the responsibility today.
Every detail has a purpose. The matte black DLC case keeps a low profile. The red lume echoes the red light used on patrol to read maps without losing night vision. The case shape is inspired by the butt of the Sten gun, carried by the Norwegian resistance in WWII. And the red countdown sector marks the final stretch – when time runs into the red, focus sharpens. Until then, there is room for preparation, for other people, or simply for rest. That’s why most of the dial is reserved for everything else.
A four-leaf clover on the caseback stands for luck – which, for Lian, means preparation, adaptability and seizing the moment. Beneath it, a line from the Norwegian national anthem: “Også vi, når det blir krevet”
Being ready doesn’t mean standing at full alert. It means building reserves, and stepping up when it counts.
