Sabotør II «KLAR 87» - 15 minutes to go
The Radium Sabotør II “KLAR 87” is a personal signature watch developed by Radium Instruments in collaboration with highly decorated soldier and retired Sergeant Major Jørg Lian.
Lian has over 38 years of service in the Norwegian Armed Forces, including with the Norwegian Special Operations Command (Forsvarets spesialkommando). In 2011 he was awarded the War Cross with Sword for exceptionally outstanding bravery and leadership during operations in Afghanistan in 2009.
KLAR 87 is the watch he wishes he had when he joined the Armed Forces in 1987. It also pays tribute to all those who completed their national service during the Cold War, and to today’s young people who carry the responsibility forward. Everyone’s contribution, regardless of role, matters.
The matte black finish gives it a functional look. The red luminous markings are inspired by the use of red light on patrol, for reading maps in the dark without losing night vision. The shape of the Sabotør case is inspired by the butt of the Sten submachine gun, which was also used by the Norwegian resistance movement during the Second World War.
The red countdown sector is the watch’s most important symbol. When time moves into the red, attention must be sharpened. But while there is still time left, it can be used for preparation, other tasks, the people around us, or simply for relaxing. After all, most of the watch face is given over to everything else.
The four-leaf clover on the caseback symbolises luck. For Lian, luck is mostly about preparation, adaptability and seizing opportunities.
KLAR 87 reminds us that being ready does not mean standing at the highest state of alert at all times. It is about building reserves and being able to step up when it is required, whether you are a soldier or a civilian.
On the caseback are the words from the Norwegian national anthem: “ Også vi, når det blir krevet” - which translates to a commitment to doing ones duty, when it is required.
