Original Radium. Plated in 24-karat gold by the industry’s finest.
A 24-karat plated Original Radium is an excellent example of a local garage-based company coming of age. As Radium Instruments Norway continues to grow, so does the demand for a broader selection. Offering a gold watch is a natural step for our focus and audience, as the classic “gold watch” is often associated with heirlooms and strong family traditions.
Gold-plated watches are an excellent alternative to the far more expensive solid gold cases that have historically been used by brands such as Omega, Breitling, and Rolex.
The 24-karat plated watch has a hardness of approximately 180 HV on the Vickers hardness scale. By comparison, titanium measures around 115 HV on the same scale.
The inner case is made of acid-resistant steel, identical to our traditional 41 mm short-lug case. All work—from milling and polishing to gold plating and assembly—is carried out in Oslo.
The watch is powered by a Swiss SW200 movement and features an Original tobacco-colored dial, gold-plated hands and crown, and a sapphire crystal. It is pressure-tested to 100 meters.
A premium supplier
By offering a Radium gold watch, we have partnered with the very best in the industry. The gold plating of the case is carried out by Centrum Fornikling, a respected family business established in Oslo as early as 1932 and operated in an unbroken family line since 1957. Among other distinctions, they have supplied the Norwegian royal family for several decades. A fun fact: Centrum Fornikling also performed the nickel plating on the full-scale version of Il Tempo Gigante many years ago.
Going for gold?
Yes. Gold watches have a timeless and luxurious appearance that elevates both outfit and occasion. Gold is also corrosion-resistant, meaning the watch will endure and maintain its appearance over time—provided it is properly cared for. If you plan to pass the watch on as an heirloom, gold is a choice that deepens its significance, strengthened further by the story of the family-owned Centrum Fornikling and fully Norwegian production.
