A 24-karat plated Original Radium is a prime example of a local garage business becoming a proper business. As Radium Instruments Norway grows, so does the demand for a broader selection. Offering a gold watch is natural for our focus and audience, as the classic "gold watch" is often associated with heirlooms and strong family traditions.
Gold-plated watches are an excellent alternative to much more costly solid gold cases, used historically by brands such as Omega, Breitling, and Rolex.
The 24-karat plated watch has a hardness of approximately 180 HV on the Vickers hardness scale. In comparison, titanium on the Vickers scale has a hardness of around 115 HV.
The interior of the watch is made of acid-resistant steel, identical to our traditional 41mm short lug case. All work, from milling to polishing and gold plating to assembly, is done in Oslo.
The watch is powered by a Swiss SW200 movement, features an Original tobacco-colored dial, gold-plated hands and crown, and sapphire crystal. It is pressure-tested to 100 meters.
Top-notch supplier
In offering a Radium gold watch, we’ve partnered with the best in the field. The gold plating on the case is done by Centrum Fornikling, a renowned family business established in Oslo as early as 1932, which has operated in an unbroken family line since 1957. They have, among other things, supplied the Royal Family for decades. Fun fact – Centrum Fornikling also nickel-plated the full-scale version of Il Tempo Gigante back in the day.
Going for gold?
Yes. Gold watches have a timeless and luxurious look that elevates both outfit and occasion. Gold is also a corrosion-resistant material, meaning the watch will last long and retain its appearance over time, provided it is well-maintained. If you plan to pass down the watch as an heirloom, gold is a choice that enhances significance and meaning, along with the story of the family-owned Centrum Fornikling and fully Norwegian production.
