The Radium Short Lugs (SL) Auto

It is with the long lugs, plexiglass, ETA 6497/98 hand-wound movement and without a central seconds hand that Radium has gained status as Norway's most iconic watch brand. This watch, which we can now call "Historical Radium", has remained unchanged since 2013. We still produce it.

However, after many hours of conversation with our customers and followers, we are launching a further development of the watch, the Radium SL AUTO.

We discovered that the customers are divided on a few key issues. While one group swears by the Historic Radium, there are others who want some very specific, and well thought out changes. Our followers thought that it should wind itself, show seconds, have scratch-free glass and sit still better on the wrist. So, we made the SL AUTO.

If you like to geek out on the details, here they are:

SHORT LUGS: Because some want a case that sits even tighter on the wrist, we have pulled the lugs towards the case.

Some people measure the distance from "lug tip to lug tip", but "from the center point of the beret to the center point of the beret" is actually a better measure to start from, as this is where the strap is attached. In that case, the figure is 48.04 mm. What does this mean? The Rolex Submariner 16800, for example, has 47.8mm. If the Submariner fits your wrist, you will be very comfortable with the Radium SL as well.

SAPPHIRE GLASS: The SL features a scratch-free sapphire glass. This withstands harder use, and comes with a dome that makes the glass more or less similar to the shape of Historical Radium's plexiglass.

SELF WINDING MOVEMENT: We use Swiss Sellita SW300. The movement has 25 jewels, 28,800 vibrations per hour (4hz), Incabloc and a 42-hour power reserve.

CENTRAL SECONDS HAND: A particularly easy-to-read seconds hand with lume across the width. The "counterweight" on the opposite side of the center is designed as a circle that creates a fascinating "solar eclipse" every time it passes the lume dot of the minute hand.

Another change we did was making the hour and minute hands somewhat narrower without reducing the lume area, which still matches the width of the hour lines perfectly. We feel that the new hands give the watch a more elegant look.

The Radium SL AUTO is launched in our most iconic model, the Original Radium, with a choice of classic Radium dial colors.

The price is the same as Historical Radium, NOK 24,990.
